that our winter sown petunias are stronger than store bought ones. I was so jealous when I saw my neighbor's hanging baskets. It was really gorgeous the first week I saw it. It was thick that pot is not visible. The flowers were all over in a big ball shape. Today, it's thin but still got few flowers but not us many as before. Totally different from the first time it was hanged.
My petunia is catching up. LOL. I should have ws more. I will do more next year. :D
Here are new pics taken few minutes ago. :P LOL

| Very nice. I like the combo of the purple petunias and the red corn poppies. I agree completely with you about the WS petunias being stronger than hothouse transplants. They're tough as nails. |

| I've got ws petunias that have gone since June 14 with no water or rain. The store bought ones are dead. |

| Yes WS Petunias are the best. Yours are gorgeous! I have a lovely mixture of flowers that I would have had to buy separately if not WS.

| Very nice! :) I still have seeds left but I will collect again to make sure :D I'm thinking of planting petunies and red poppies around my crabapple. Hopefully, I can see more of your petunias so I can get more ideas how you combined it with other shrubs or plants on your landscape. Thanks folks! :D Wintersowing rocks!!! |

| Mine are still small but are getting there. I pinched them some so they could get nice and bushy. I hope it is true... I am so sick of waiting for them to take off!!! lol Karen |

| Yes just as the store bought ones are petering out the ws ones are still going strong. I don't like the long wait for them to actually flower once planted but boy when they do it is so worth it. And the last far longer since they had no stress of traveling or the added stuff the green house growers add to aid in flowering so therfor I think they are much stronger since they do their own thing in their own time. | I can NOT believe it is July fourth weekend and I do not have one petunia bloom! But we are getting a bit of heat this week so I have my fingers crossed! I have tons of WSed petunias getting bigger slowly in containers; I am going to plant them out this weekend even though most are less then 3 " tall. |

| nan-6161, I've been so lazy for almost a month now. I have 2 containers of ws petunias that I harvested last year. The weather today was perfect! It's just today that I've finally transplanted them. They are small. Leaf diameter is about 5mm only. :D So, I'm not sure if it will even bloom since I think I'm late. I've also transplanted black eyed susan, heuchera doles(not sure if I spelled it right), balsamina and agastache and all of them are all small. I should have done it last May. :( Anyways, here is what I've noticed with petunias in containers. If the container is not deep enough, growth of plants will be very slow. I still have 2 laura bush petunias in a container and they are only 2 inch tall. It was sown the same time as the other petunias you see above. I think, the length or mass of the roots has something to do with their size. Here is another picture of laura bush but in a big pot. I think soil is 1 foot to 14 inches thick. You should have transplanted it a long time ago especially you are in zone 7.

| It makes a difference what kind of petunias they are, too. The Laura Bush are hearty, healthy little buggers, to be sure. I've already cut most of my LB back a couple of times this year because they were too big. I found last year that if they weren't cut back occasionally they got so long and leggy and went into decline. They did much better if I kept the size in check. Karen |
