Wintersown Hollyhock

This pink hollyhock looked so great that even the DH noticed it. So he snapped a picture of it.

I tried wintersowing hollyhocks a couple years ago, and they looked awful. More than half dead even before they bloomed. This year, the one that survived the winter looks great.

So I guess the moral to the story is never say never.

Oh that's so gorgeous!! What a pretty pink color! Only one of my winter sown hollyhocks survived our horrible winter but it's loaded with fat buds that should open any day now. I'm so thrilled that one survived! I've got lots more WS this year but they haven't got much size to them with the cold, wet spring & early summer we've had. Maybe now it's warmed up some they'll start getting a little size to them.

Thanks! I really wanted pink ones, but had a hard time finding seeds for just pink hollyhocks. I finally found some from this source: http://www.wuvie.net/.

I 'love' the name, LOL.

Very Pretty Lois! I love HH's, have yet to find a prevention for the rust. I tried charcoal and some high end fungicides. I just plant and hope for the best.

The one that did well this year was planted among the roses and got the same rich soil and regular watering that the roses got. I will continue to experiment to see how much the pampering makes a difference.
