My ws petunias did pretty darn well this year though it was a slow start (alot of spring freezes). The Laura Bush is awesome and a bright magenta that i love. It reseeds like crazy so some refer to it as a perennial. The annuals that are doing great for me here in northern michigan are poppies, bachelor buttons, zinnias (the direct sown are better tho), petunias, snapdragons.

I spring sow my petunias (mid- April here) in WS continers and they are doing very well. I've never had them reseed in the beds, so I save seed from year to year from the plants.

I have been winter sowing and saving seeds from the same Petunias for several years. Some were hybrids, so it's always nice to see what you get each year. The annuals I sow each year are poppies, zinnias, four o'clocks, Datura,Canna, asters, and dark eyed susans. I also like to try a few vines: morning glories and sweet peas are favourites. It's always a rush to get them in the ground in time for a good show, so I try to keep them to a minimum.

This was my 1st year WSing & petunias were my least successful crop. I think our spring was just plain too wet for too long for them to get happy! Most everything else I sowed has done well though, so this is something I'll continue with. A lot of the seed I see folks here talking about are things I've had good results with by direct fall or spring sowing so will probably continue with that method rather than adding an unneccessary step using the jugs.

beachgrub...would you like to trade some of your laura bush petunia seeds with me? Send me a list of your wants, my trade page is not done. I keep adding as I pick seeds. So I still have lots not listed yet.

I have wintersow petunias for the past 3 or so years. And usually I get a big show in return but this year with the heat most my w/s petunias did not do so good. Luckily I have a decent amount of seeds still. Though I will have to get some different colors yet. I also have had good luck with torenia/wishbone flowers, salvias, zinnias, cosmos, verbenas, impatiens. Paula

Petunia is the reason I am still Winter Sowing even though my garden is stuffed with plants.
