Very pretty! And the salad looks good. Next year I'm definitely doing lettuce (I eat a lot of salads).

That salad looks yummy! Is that Portmeirion Botanic Garden I see under it? I really enjoyed my D. barbatus 'Sooty' this year. Gathered lots of seeds to sow for more blooms next year as well as for trades.

It is Portmeirion Botanic Garden, gardenweed. Seems only fitting to love such a pattern as a gardener. :) Re "Sooty"--do you think it will come true to seed? I do love the color. I have four clumps of 2nd year plants this year, and I am so happy with them, too. Thanks for looking, everybody! cheers, Norabelle

Lovely photos. I am partial to pink and that columbine is a beauty, as is the poppy.

Norabelle - I expect the dianthus 'Sooty' to come true from seed since I grew it from seed I bought from Diane's Flower Seeds. According to her website all her seeds are open pollinated as were mine. Don't see why the seeds I harvested shouldn't come true unless they got cross-pollinated with another dianthus but since there aren't any others growing nearby, I'm thinking it's unlikely.

Lovely pictures! I love the Columbine. That is a nice surprise.

Thanks, gardenweed! I usually let my dianthus self sow, but I like the Sooty so much, I want to save seed and WS more. Your post encourages me to do this and master my urge to dead head. :) I am saving seeds of the mystery columbine. I don't know if it will come true, but it will be fun to try. All of my columbine are now mysteries, but the double-triple petals of this one are so lovely. I had another that was similar petal shape, but was bi-color purple and white. Maybe I will see it again some year. :)
