Those are beautiful. I loved them as a kid but got to thinking they're common when I see the now very few stands of the old-fashioned ones that come back every year. But they're pretty, more colors to choose from, tidy, bloom most all summer and easy care. I guess it's best if you deadhead them especially if they are in planters. I'm mad at myself. In a now weedy spot, some giant white and pink rode in on something. I yanked them out because I wanted something different. Now I regret it because they might have established an annual colony and help smother all that terrible stuff I was yanking last night. I tried wintersowing Blue Daddy and maybe one other kind, and it didn't work, probably got too wet as they tend to self seed (in the ground) easily once established. That first photo almost looks neon or like they'd glow in the dark. Neat! I just glanced down and there was a paper towel on my surge protector. It probably wouldn't hurt, but if you let too much pile up on them, they can erupt into flames. An elderly couple died in a house fire started that way, very sad. Theirs might have been defective but they probably can overheat. Just a reminder to myself and others, don't mean to scare anyone.

Ditto what aliska said about that first photo...WOW!!! Those are some gorgeous colors. I'd love to harvest petunia seeds and WS them but wonder if I'd have any luck. Is it difficult? Haven't had time to try up to this point but maybe down the road a bit...

Pretty Flowers! Congratulations!

Yes the blue in the first pic is very blue and I love that. The seeds (this year) were bought from Sawllowtail seeds I love that place. I think that set is called hurrah blueberry muffin mix if not found at swallowtail then I picked it up from ebay. I am currently collecting seeds now. But since I have so many colors it is hard to tell what next years colors will be. I was surprised that I got so many purple petunias this year. As for collecting I don't find it hard to collect them once you know what you are doing. After the flower falls off there is the little green seed head watch that and as it turns brown when it is fully brown and kinda dried out then the seeds are ripe.Once in awhile a seed head will burst before collecting but you couls get lucky and find a few seeds left in the seedhead.

Beautiful! I'm gonna have to get back to sowing more petuinias - just love 'em! They reseed for me here - this year I've got Laura Bush and Shockwave, but they're all pink/purple. PV

Gosh, do you ever order seeds, then go back and wish you'd chosen this or that? I figured I'd better get my order in to Swallowtail early so they don't sell out of the one I wanted most, Pansy Ultima Morpho. So I keep changing my cart and could not decide on a petunia, ended up ordering the oddest colors Easy Wave Opposites Attract. But they have these little pelleted flower seeds called Bacopa that trails prettily with petunias so I'm trying that, chose the white ones, other color looked washed out for contrast. It will be fun to try petunias again and I hope to do more container gardening. There are so many more I'd like to try but am making myself be careful. Plus I'm on a waiting list at Seeds Trust for some special corn and will put in an order for more there, have to watch the $. I rationalize seeds are cheap enough, but it all adds up fast if you aren't careful. Now I've got the oddest mess of seeds I ever heard of. But I've got some stashed away I hope will still germinate from prior years so I'll have plenty.
