coreopsis seeds

I have been collecting coreopsis seeds for winter sowing. However I thought I better run this by you folks. I notice how well this plant self seeds. Actually this new plants are much nicer than the older ones so I may jerk out the plants after they sprinkle seeds and go with new ones next year. The question I have is I have an area where I would love more of this plant. Would it be best to winter sow the seeds or just sprinkle in the area where I want them to grow? If I sprinkle would you suggest doing this in the fall or early spring. Thanks so much.
