Roadside Jewelweed

To top off this great wildflower sighting season, I drove by a huge patch of yellow jewel weed - yes the native impatiens. The pods weren't ripe yet and the location would be tricky to get to with all the traffic. I wouldn't mind popping a few seed pods.

Have YOU seen jewel weed this year?

I hope this is jewelweed. It is growing at the edge of my property.

I have seen jewel weed! My boyfriend and I were at a go-cart race track last week and saw a bunch of it growing at the edge of the woods. Looks pretty in bloom. When I was a kid, I liked to touch the seed pods to watch them explode.

There is some growing in my yard, but the deer have eaten the patch down twice. It was even trying to bloom on short stalks, but now the blooms are gone since the deer came back to eat again. Sux.

There is a lot of it growing in some wild parts of the neighborhood though, especially in the wet areas.

Awww.

One showed up in my backyard years ago and now my yard if full of them!! They are pretty, but they reseed prolifically. Plant one then you'll never get rid of it!

They make good compost, though.
