Opinions wanted - border edge

I've got Carex 'Ice Dance'/Japanese sedge grass divisions planted along the curved edge of a part sun bed on a slope. I spaced the divisions from the mother plant 20" apart so they'd have room to grow but now I'm looking at the spaces and thinking about dividing a medium-sized heuchera/coral bells and planting them between the sedge grass divisions. 'Ice Dance' is a very well-behaved green/white variegated low-growing ornamental grass for shade and the coral bells I'm looking to divide is sort of a burgundy-bronze. Both are apparently happy in this part of the garden and have grown into healthy, robust perennials.

I'm inviting observations/comments/opinions from those of you who have them regarding what I've got in mind. I think I'd be happy leaving the sedge to fill in but don't want to pass up the opportunity to add a little contrast while the adding is good. When it comes to garden design, I'm a triple deluxe greenhorn with IT/business analyst credentials. One reason I latched on to winter sowing was plunk 'n run!!! Another reason I'm asking for help is I latched on to winter sowing, plunked 'n ran.

Any thoughts?

You've got leaf shape contrast, color contrast and height contrast, which be nice. I guess the question is, how fast does the sedge spread? Even if it starts to take over some day, you love to garden, so you could thin or move the heuchera if nedessary. And you know what we always say, send pictures when you are done!

I don't have any grasses but I have lots of heuchera's as edging in beds - greens, purples, greenish with white (dales strain)and a caramel. I really like them in the spring (full and happy)but because my beds are so tightly packed, I tend to lose it visually by mid-summer as plants behind them get bigger and push out. But they are fine - come back again the folowing spring. Really easy to grow from seed too. Seed is so tiny, I gather and crush the whole dried bloom in a container and get tons of babies even though I can't see the seed!

It's not exactly about edging but Margaret Roach from 'A Way to Garden' has a helpful description/tutorial about underplanting. Interesting way to think about setting out plants.

Here is a link that might be useful: Underplanting

Thanks for the article from me too! I think this will really help in an area I have been struggling with.
