My lawn is littered with twigs, branches & leaves ripped from the trees by TS Irene on Sunday, I had no electricity, running water or refrigeration for over 48 hours, many of my WS perennials were either flattened or beaten up by the wind, but the glass is still half full. I just watched YouTube videos of the Vermont flooding on the West River where my son has a vacation cottage right at the edge of the river. I'm guessing it's gone, altho' he can't get up there to check because over 200 roads have been washed away. I'll have to throw away everything in my refrigerator but my power is back on. My friend just 2 miles from here still doesn't have power. So yeah, the glass is definitely a little more than half full.

Bakemom, I know what you mean. I too often only see what needs to be done or how I want to change things when I am in the garden. Other people just see the beauty. I try to accept their compliments without adding something stupid about how their is so much yet to do, etc.

I almost felt sad that a little boy was surprised at how "real" nature could be so beautiful. Seems so many people have become detatched from the beauty that could surround them with some effort...lots of effort over years on your part, Bakemom.

Power was out here for 6 days. No water or septic without electricity. Took that many days to clean up downed trees, branches and leaves in my late father's yard to say nothing of the water in the basement.

Glass half full...no trees hit house and water didn't cover entire basement floor.

Your gardens, especially ones you created out by street around your lot, are a gift to those who pass your house anytime.
