And the winner is...

Okay, I posted to the "Any big disappointers this year?" thread that I had lost many plants due to the fact that I was away for a month. But here's my big success story: one of the things I wintersowed this season was a Luna Red hibiscus, from seed I acquired in a trade in...2007! Before I left, I repotted the one healthy but tiny plant into a fairly large pot, knowing that hibiscus get big & need room to grow. It looked rather pitiful.

When I came back, the plant was 3 feet tall and in bloom - and gorgeous! Now I will have to find a home for it before winter, so I can enjoy it next year as well.

What's your success story this year?

I live in Md. and we always just cut Our Lady Baltimore down to the ground and mulched it heavily and it showed back up come Spring/Summer and usually was blooming in July..I would think you could do the same living in the South.

I'm not sure it's a success in term's of growth (IT'S HUGE), my Tithonia is a Butterfly magnet. They just LOVE this gigantic bush of a plant and that why I kept it. It's always in bloom, large orange blossoms with yellow button like center.

My Butterfly Bush is another Gigantic Troll of a plant, it's just a year and 6-months old, standing at 14 ft in height. I'm just waiting until October to move this, it reminds me of the movie "Day of the Triffads"! However, the butterflies love it.
