My new butterfly/hummingbird bed

Just wanted to share with you all a bed I've been working on for the past two weeks, but had been planning for the past year or so. Most of the plants were winter sown this year, some were plants I had to pot up last year when we replaced our garage with a new one and over-wintered (some of those were winter sown from previous years), handful are reseeds I dug up from other beds and transplanted to this one, and about a dozen or so were purchased. Most, but not all are North American native plants and cultivars. I still need to mulch it, may use shredded leaves around the plants, wood chips for the narrow path I left to be able to get in there and weed, and I think I might get some small light colored gravel for the center section where my plants that like drier soil are planted. The bed is ten feet wide by about thirty seven feet long, a few feet short of the full forty foot length of the garage due to the chain link fence. I can't wait until the next couple of years when it all matures and fills in.

Nice job karen, I love the bed-with-in , the bed,I like rocks in a garden setting.You have a lot planted, boy, is that ever going to be pretty next year,a lot of work, it sure does look nice.

Thank you for the nice comments. I have so much stuff in there I'd have to sit and make a list. It is a bit over-planted because I had so much I wanted to plant in there, but I figured it'll fill in quicker. I like the stuffed to the brim look anyway. I don't have a place to sit and view, unless I want to go sit with the neighbors. I just have to take it in along my little path within the bed. I'll post pictures next year as it all matures.

Over planted? It looks marvelous, and that looks like it was one heck of a lot of work. I hope I catch a post when it fills in and maybe catch some hummingbirds. A real labor of love there.

I'm really curious what all is in there and how it will look when more is blooming.
