Does anyone know if seed saved from Broken Colors/Kaleidescope Four O'Clocks stay true? Or do they revert to sold color Four o'clocks?

yes they do come true from collected seeds. They also grow a tuber that can be dug up, brought in for the winter and then planted out again the following spring. This plant was originally grown from a commercial pack of 4 O'clock broken colors. I saved the tuber over the winter, planted it in a 10 inch pot filled with miracle grow potting mix and this is what grew and bloomed from the tuber. And this is the plant that grew and bloomed from the saved seeds from the above plant. Fran

My experience is the same as Fran. I find it a bother to save tubers, so I have saved seeds and replanted each spring for about five years. In the broken colours packet I also found a yellow and a rose colour which I have isolated and they also come true. Mine just started blooming last week - one of my fall favourites.

Moonphase, your zone must be warm enough for tubers to survive your winter. Up here in zone 5, tubers would never survive a winter, even the warm one we had last winter. If we don't dig the annual tubers, rhizomes they will be nothing but "dead mush" come spring. Fran

yes, being in zone 7 has it's blessings. The only thing that I have to bring in are elephant ears.I used to plant them in the ground and would forget to dig the tuber. Now I plant in pots and bring them in before frost.I make stepping stones, using the leaves.found this in the accoutrements forum.I almost have enough to do a walk.I also use big hosta leaves. moonphase
