That wild deep purple flower in fields blooming right now?

| What is this flower? It's about 4 feet tall with striking deep purple flowers. It's out in meadows around here in droves. They get huge and I was planning to get some seed from a friends's plant. HELP! |

| If you can take a picture the Name That Plant Forum will id it for you. 'Purple' means different things to different people. |

Does anyone know if it's the same one that grows in the Southern states? I used to have one that I got from a roadside ditch in Georgia. I loved it and would like to get another one. |

| I love Ironweed---but I've never been able to dig one up. They seem to grow in the hardest, rockiest soil around. |
