Beans sown in October/November - need assistance

Hello all,

I have not been on the WS forum for quite some time but I have a question that is particuolarly suited to this forum.

Each year I get a fair number of long bean plants that just come up on their own. (Volunteers) Evidently the bean seeds drop when I tear down the vines in November each year. This year I am thinking about just planting seeds right where I want them to grow in 2013. All of the bean seed planting information is quite specific to only plant when the soil is warm. These long beans come up all over the raised bed and lawn around the raised bed - the soil does not stay warm over the winter.

Anyone think my planting in October/November will work?? The volunteers come up in April when the soil is still cold (40-50 degrees).

All comments will be appreciated :-)

Thanks,
DL

I'm not a veggie grower, so don't put too much faith in me. But in my area, with cold wet winters and clay soil, big seeds can rot in cold, wet weather. (beans are all big seeds, right?). Apparently your soil and climate are more forgiving since you get April volunteers. Why not try if you have seeds to gamble with? Sow some now, save some for later.
