NOW we get rain!!

I was reading the paper the other day and sometimes our small town paper can be on the less informative side. Though there are times where it has some good information in it. Well in the paper I read where this winter is suppose to be an extremely wet but warmer than average winter.

It is pouring this morning where was all of this rain during growing season??

Don't complain. I'd give anything for some wet stuff. We haven't had any rain in months, and this latest round didn't hit us, either.

Perennials, shrubs, and trees really need some moisture going into dormancy. I fear I'll lose a lot this year.

Yikes, I was looking at the weather this morning and I thought of you. I figured for sure you got some. Hopefully what just hit us will move your way. It was a good steady solid drizzling rain followed by a downpour. My ground soaked it up like it was nothing. LOL now it is gurgling.

While we do need the rain, I see the green blob there where it says wetter than normal for our area. NO!!!! My yard floods badly when we get a lot of snow/rain, and I don't want my stuff drowning. Sigh. I guess, what can I do about it, huh?

We never did get the rain. It went all around us, but none here. Now they're saying severe storms tomorrow, 50 mph winds... I'll believe it when I see it. We'll probably get the wind, but no rain.

RE: NOW we get rain!!

We got a shower about 2 minutes early this morning. Was supposed to rain all day but no luck. We've only had real rain about 2 hours in the last 3 months. You don't hear of wild fires in northern Kentucky very often but there's been one burning in Ft. Knox (outside Louisville) off and on for 4 days or so. Hope all get some wet relief soon. Vicci

RE: NOW we get rain!!

The winds here today were horrible and they say more is to come tomorrow. Though I don't see it happening. Today was only a 30% chance yet we got a good beneficial rain. Usually when there is a higher chance is when it does not hit us.

I was talking to someone about 10 miles from me and they didn't see one drop. So I guess I should be extremely thankful. I know my plants are!!

I am with you Vicci, I hope those that need the relief soon get it!!

RE: NOW we get rain!!

They're pretty much promising rain again today, strong storms, 70% chance, and 60 mph winds. I'm going to have to check outside for items that could fly around. At least it can't hurt my garden much... much of it is already in the compost bins, and the rest would be there too if I'd had the time.

I just hope the electricity doesn't go off. The remnnants of Hurricane Ike blew threw a couple of years ago and our power was out for a whole week. Our service is awful since Duke took over. That was 80 mph winds for 6 hours. We also lost our roof again that time, and some siding.

We've had local brush fires around here, too lately. I never remember that before.

Here's hoping no one has storm damage today.

I hope that no one has storm damage also.

I sure hope this heavy wind and rain is not a sign for what is to come this winter. If we are suppose to be warmer than average yet wetter, that could mean we deal with storms like this the entire winter season.

Looks like a front line storm is headed our way right now, and the winds are EXTREMELY strong. They said the storm is moving 60 mph to the east. Good thing is that it doesn't look like it is going to last long.

RE: NOW we get rain!!

We have a tornado watch until 4, high wind warning till 8pm.

I'm ready for no power. I showered early this morning, washed and dried towels, ran to Kroger and bought cooked, cold chicken. Cooked potatoes for potato salad for dinner, too. Kicked up temp in fridge for a while, and kicked up the a/c. Ran the vacuum, badly needed. Charged cell phone, have flash lights, batteries, and candles. Small stuff from porch and deck is inside the garage or house. Maybe if I'm prepared for power outage it won't happen.

I might be safe- Jim Cantore is in Minneapolis, not Cincinnati.

Your smarter than me I have yet to go to the grocery or the post office which was on my list of things to do yesterday. Ughh!! The sun is starting to poke out so I plan to make it TODAY.

RE: NOW we get rain!!

I survived, and well. Wind was incredible for about 15 minutes, then it passed through. It's still breezy, and the temp has dropped to 59°. And we are getting some of that much-needed rain.

I'm shocked that I still have power. Last I heard, only 56,000 were without power.

RE: NOW we get rain!!

Oh my word, 56,000!!! I do not even believe there are 56,000 in our entire county, LOL.

It got cool here during the rain but it warmed back up and now I have my windows open. That is one nice thing about this time of the year, I can open my windows and have a wonderful breeze.

Oh and I did make it to the grocery!!

RE: NOW we get rain!!

I did some watering on Sunday and then we got two inches of rain on Monday, finally.

Lake Michigan is warmer than usual this year. Combine that with "wetter than average" and we could get socked with a lot of lake effect snow this year ... if it ever freezes. I was thinking maybe I should help my DH shovel this year to keep in shape for gardening in the spring .... nawwwwww.

I still have so much blooming :) Tithonia, roses, cleome, cosmos, celosia, zucchini, marigolds, zinnia, tomatoes, geraniums, impatience to name a few. Combined with the fall colors, the garden is still lovely.

RE: NOW we get rain!!

According to today's paper, 52,742 customers lost power, compared to the windstorm in 2008 when 782,000 customers lost power. Mine was out for 6 days that time.

RE: NOW we get rain!!

LOL@ bev, to cute. I do not like the cold so I would use the time he is shoveling to make him some warm stew or something that needs my attention in the kitchen, lol. Even homemade hot chocolate, anything but shoveling snow.

Karen that is crazy, I think that is the same year we got hit with that major ice storm.

I am extremely fortunate I actually live in town and we live not far from the hospital. The entire county pretty much lost their power some for months. I have to say mine never even blinked. I seriously think we must be hooked into the hospitals transformer. We are in between a hospital and a fire station a rescue squad and 2 schools. Only bad thing is when the tornado sirens go off, eww it is LOUD.
