Direct Winter Sow

I would like to avoid the myriad of milk jugs / flats of winter sowing, direct sowing instead when the temps. here get consistently cold. I have some wildflower seeds that I'm fairly confident will germinate in the spring. Has anyone had experience with the following;Giant Hyssop(Agastache Rupesteris), Agastache Cana Heather Queen,Butterfly Weed,Catmint,Jupiter's Beard,Cinquefoil, and Yarrow? Also has anyone direct sown in fall/winter on a hill? I'm thinking rain snow will wash it away from the intended location. If you have any opinion on the above or direct sowing in NJ/zone 6 it would be greatly appreciated
