WS Beech and Hophornbeam

Hi - I collected hophornbeam seeds (Ostrya virginiana) on a recent trip to northern Michigan and seeds of the American beech (Fagus grandiflora) this morning. I have not had any luck with either in the past. Can you give me some advice on what worked for you? I know that hophornbeam needs a period of warm and cold stratification. What about the beech seeds? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!
M.

Clothiers database:
Ostrya virginiana , Ironwood , sow 6 month @ 70F, then 6 month @ 39F, recycle until germ. occurs

Fagus grandifolia , American Beech , sow 3 months @ 39F, move to 70F for germ.

The suggestions on the Clothiers site are most often for seed that has been dried and stored at least a while....the suggestions from the database compiled by Ken Druse are also reliable but are usually for freshly gathered seed, not commercially purchased or stored.

Druse suggests that the beech, if seeds are freshly harvested, may germinate either sown right away and placed outdoors to then sprout in Spring (barely covered, some light may be beneficial to germination), or sown immediately inside at 50F for germination in 30-365 days. If you have lots of seed you might try both ways, although the 'sow 50F' is a difficult temperature for me. I can provide colder, or warmer, but not that cool in between range.
