I have never tried growing it from seed but I thought it was a hybrid. I have rooted my regular elderberry from a cutting and it rooted like gangbusters! You might have better luck just taking a cutting to root. Joann |

| This is a cultivar of European elder, Sambucus nigra. It probably would NOT breed true to seed, but it might be a nice plant anyway. As for taking a cutting, technically this is illegal because 'Black Lace' is a patented plant and it is illegal to propagate it asexually. However I doubt the plant police would be busting down your door if you were to take a cutting for personal use. |

| I guess I'm already in trouble, since I got mine from a friend who divided his plant in spring and he gave me a nice little plant LOL. I will try anyway to W/S a few seeds, and see what happens. Thank you for your responses. |

You'll need to purchase or start plants from cuttings if you wish to get what you see :) True patent name is Sambucus nigra 'Eva'..."Black Lace" is only the trademark name. I have the common species Sambucus nigra ssp. cuerulea (Aka S. mexicana)...Blue Elderberry if you want to try some seeds for this one. Berries are edible and used in jams, pies, etc. Let me know at la_raspberry@yahoo.com |
