RE: Aconitum lamarkii -- any luck?

Hi, Kimka:

I'm sorry to see no one can share their experience! I though Lindalana might have done this one, she has some Aconitum and tries difficult seeds. I consider aconitum difficult because the ones I've looked at (and tried) need to be sown when they are fresh, and quickly lose viability. Have you looked at the Tom Clothier germination database? You can google it using those words.

Good luck!

I winter sowed an aconitum, not lamarkii, this past winter. I had no problems. I sowed the seeds in January after receiving them in them in the fall. I'm assuming they were fresh from last year.

kimka, was it yellow monkshood in general that you were interested in adding or specifically lamarkii? I have monkshood that self sow - not at all, a little, and then there is yellow a. vulparia that sows seedlings with a vengeance here :) Makes me suspect its easier from seed than some, soft yellow and about 2 1/2' in bloom. I think I'd still sow in early Fall though for warm, cold, cool periods....didn't save any seed (no need!) but I could keep some for you next season if you reminded me.
