Hi Northerner, My experience in starting Buddleias from cuttings has been in the spring and not this late in the year. Not quite sure if it's possible to start them this late... I know there's another Canadian that starts them, not sure who, but they also do it in the spring. You are right, I doubt the seeds are mature enough. Mine usually mature by late December! Your neighbour was so sweet to think of you. :O) Maybe you could ask her for her cuttings in the spring when she trims it back. Those are the cuttings I took this year and I was so successful it was amazing!!!

I tried cuttings last winter, they would root, but when I put them in the soil (in the hosue) they would just sort of linger, not really die but not really grow. I think cuttings that have bloomed dont do so hot anyway. I guess you could try.....

Never tried making more from cuttings but I do have one of those honeycomb BB's and its HUGE. Very pretty now that I have it in the right place (with a tall hedge of green behind it to show off the pretty yellow flowers) so do place it carefully if you get one to grow. I had it planted in a bed with a lot of rudbeckia and it just never allowed this special yellow to glow.

You can't get seeds from the yellow. They're sterile. So cuttings are the only way to grow them. It's easy to root these. Just stick them in moist soil, not wet. Place them in a spot where the direct sun can't hit them. Put the container in a baggie to keep the humidity high. Clip off the flowers and most of the leaves, leaving only a couple. You might have to overwinter it indoors, but they should root within a few weeks.

Hello Tiffy,Doris, Nan, and Token. Thanks for your help with this problem. Token, thanks for your details, you seen to have been down this path before. I will set them to root tomorrow and hope my DH can help them through my absence. Our sister is very ill and needs help and my turn is coming up, so I'll be away. I'll have to root them indoors because we expect our first hard frost tonight. Otherwise, I'll see if my neighbour can get more cuttings in the spring. The shrub belongs to one of her co-workers, so she went to a lot of trouble to get these for me. If they don't grow, at least they made a lovely addition to my Thanksgiving (Canadian) bouquet. What a lovely fragrance. Northerner.
