| It is for seeds. Winter sowers are primarily a group of a people that sow seeds in the winter months outside in recyclable containers. Not all seeds work for this technique of sowing but the basic guidelines are anything that needs a cold frame, stratification, or if it reseeds itself. There is a ton of more information under Faq. If you are new to winter sowing that is ok you are more than welcome to join in the swap and just post that you are new. I know myself I have seeds that I am willing to share with newbies and I am sure other members will be sharing some extra seeds also. Feel free to check it all out it is on the exchange page or you can simply use the link that pvick graciously posted. |

| Carolyn, Thanks for offering to do the wintersowing swap this year. I'd like to participate this year. Now let me see if I understand the rules correctly. We are to send you a SASBE, postage to cover 20 pkts of seed, a wishlist of seeds we'd like to have. How much postage should we send for 20 pkt. to be returned to us? Maybe I can go back over Token's postings last year when he did the swap or ask him. When does this start? I guess the sooner we get our request in the better since the holidays are fast approaching. I don't know how to make labels by computer so my labels will be handwritten. Is that okay? Should we sent you an email ahead of time with our wish list? |
| I know this is a stupid question but you keep writing about something being on the Exchange side..what are you referring to? Is there another forum for this wintersowing swap? Maybe somebody else reading this can explain it to me. Duh! |

| Pippi, yes, there is another post on the exchange side of the winter sowers forum. I will post the link below. It has all the rules on there, but I pretty much went by token's outline, as a matter of fact I just copied and pasted it. It is 20 packs of seed. All different types of seed. You send me 20 packs of seed, along with your request for what you would like to receive back. Also include a label and enough postage for the trip back. I am recommending people send about 5 stamps for a medium sized bubble mailer. I seriously do not believe that it will be over 4 stamps but I am asking for 5 for that just in case factor. Anything I do not use I will return to you. I will reuse the same bubble mailer you send me and I will send your new seeds back to you. I plan to have everyone their packages back before december 21st. Which I am giving myself a very short time frame to have everything sorted and mailed back so I am asking everyone to please try their best to have me their bubble mailers no later than november 30th and sooner if at all possible. I sure hope that explains it to you if you have anymore questions feel free to take a look at the link provided below. We now have 10 days to get me your package and there are already 32 packages here!! 5 days till thanks giving can you believe it where did that sneak up from. I haven't even finished shopping for my thanks giving grocery list, uh oh. P.S. Token is the one that said that I need to request 5 stamps. :D |

| I haven't taken any pictures but I am sure when they all get here I will. I have taken quick peeks at some of the packages but I will be honest I have not started seperating yet. When everyones package has arrived that is in transit I will bury my head and take a picture for you and get busy. I am excited to start!! I seriously plan to get everyone their package back in plenty of time for people to research their new seeds before winter solstice. |

| Well the exchange side of the forum is down. So for now till that issue is resolved I guess I will use this thread for my post. Well I got everything sorted and packed, WHEW!!! (Of course I cleaned up a little before posting this, lol) I got to the last 20 and ran out of tape to seal your packages up. So needless to say I will not be going to the store tonight. Tomorrow I will for sure be at the post office with all but 1 package. She knows who she is, I already contacted her. For the rest of you though if your not excited it is time to get excited. Whoooo hoooo!! Velsgarden, I will for sure get yours out monday!! When you get your packages please let me know. Hopefully we will have the other thread working to where we can use it but if not just post here. Thank you everyone for joining in on the seed madness!!!! |
| Wow Carolyn! You are FAST! Thanks so much for managing the swap this year. I can't wait for my seeds! Take a break and drink some cocoa. :D Erika |

- Posted by countrycarolyn (My Page) on Thu, Dec 9, 10 at 14:01
| Makgalleries, I do have some commons left over. The rare or unusual seeds are gone. If you need some seeds I would be more than happy to do an sasbe for you. Just note they are common seeds. Anyone else that is new to winter sowing or you would like to get a hold of seeds just to try it out. Shoot me an email, I would be more than happy to do an sasbe. As of right now I can at least do 3 to 4 packages of a good abundance of common seeds. |
| Yay Carolyn!! So excited for my first wintersowing and to see what kind of seeds arrive. Thanks for being such a speed queen! |

| Ya are welcome, I really enjoyed it and I learned quite a bit also. So it was well worth doing, but I was also glad to get it done, and see those packages gone, lol. I hope everyone is happy with the selection of seeds that you got. Some of you were quite difficult, so I really tried my best. One of you got something that I was eye balling the entire time. I really had a hard time coming off of it, I wanted it so bad it was even on my want list before the swap . Well I will be honest I did take about 5 seeds out of the package, and sent the rest. That same person got a gag package of flowers, LOL. Just as a harmless joke, it was probably about 2:00 am and I was tired and silly. I won't say who, but feel free to share it with us when you get it, it is clearly marked as a joke. Anywho let me know what you think about the seeds you got cause granted not all wishes were met, but I can promise you this You guys were dealt first. I did score a few things that no one asked for or that were left over or in major abundance that I was extremely excited about getting. So I want to say thank you to all of you!! As for the extra newbie seeds I have 3 people that have spoken for the seeds already. Billstickers, I received yours yesterday, and I will be filling it shortly. After I fill those 3, assuming they will send off a bubble mailer, I will post to let you guys know if I have enough seeds for any more. As for right now that offer is closed!!! Thanks again everyone for making this what I hope to be a great swap, without all of ya it wouldn't of happened!! |
| I received my seeds today and was very happy. Thanks for your hard work, Carolyn, and thanks to everyone for the great seeds. Counting the days.... |
| Hi, Carolyn - I posted on the exchange page - got my seeds today, thanks! |
| Hi Carolyn! Hi everyone! A very stuffed seed envelope arrived today. *happy dance* Thank you! And where did you get seeds for carrion flower? :-D Yes, folks, this was the joke item. I laughed as soon as saw this, and I'm still giggling as I type. There's more than one plant called carrion flower. I knew about two already. One is a succulent called stapelia; there are several species, all with cool-looking star-shaped flowers. Another is amorphophallus, with several species, all with flowers that are, um, phallic. Several other plants have earned the name "carrion flower" too. All of them smell like a well-ripened dead animal when in full bloom. The question is, which plant are these seeds from? Do I want to know? This page has a great non-gardening partner photo. (Would you do this to your sweetheart?) Visiting a blooming amorphophallus titanum. Houston's Museum of Natural Science had an amorphophallus titanum bloom this July. Photos at the link below. What makes this particularly amusing is that I've already shown my boyfriend both of these links. Joked about planting "special" flowers in the front hell strip for pedestrians to enjoy. We live three blocks from the downtown shopping district, so there's lots of foot traffic. He immediately said no way, and I had to clarify that I was kidding. Well, of course I was. The back yard would be much safer. ;-) Now, I get to show him that I have seeds. "Look, honey, I don't know what these are exactly, I'll figure that out when they grow, but wow, they are going to reek!" LOL On a serious note, I do have one suggestion for next time: it might be a good idea for us to include a "what I sent in" list on the same sheet of paper as the wish list. I sent in orange butterfly weed and cleome, and got both back in the swap. Not my own seed, but other gardener's. That's OK, I can just swap them again. :-) |

| Edie_h, I am so glad you got a good kick out of that!! I was wondering if you had got your seeds yet. While I was packing seeds it was extremely late and I was tired and extremely goofy. I had remembered your post earlier about searching high and low for flowers that had a great fragrance, so LOL..... LOL I thought ok this will be a perfect joke, LOL. The one that sent them in was grdngramma, maybe she can tell us more about them. I know I sure got a GREAT laugh over them!! I am still laughing!! LOL |

| I posted without adding, I truly apologize about you getting the same seeds back!! I think that would be a great idea of adding a sent list in. Also, I was in such laughter over here, that is even funnier that you showed your boyfriend pictures before of those plants and you ended up with the seeds. To funny!! |

| I got my seeds yesterday. Great assortment - I'm so excited to get started on my wintersowing! Thanks Carolyn! |
| Velsgarden - Oops, I didn't say thank you before, because I was laughing too hard over the stinky "fragrant" plant. Thank you, that was sweet. Gardenunusual - I don't know whether there's another big swap planned, but if you really want to trade, why wait? Have you checked the Seed Exchange forum? There are always people there looking to trade seeds. Sometimes people trade seeds in exchange for non-seed items, such as plant labels. And some nice people give away seeds for postage. You can post there with your "haves" and "wants" and see who responds. I checked, and I don't have anything on your "want" list. Clearly I need to move, so I can have a bigger garden. :-D And I am thrilled with my new seed collection. You wonderful people sent in some exciting and unusual seeds. I received some that have been on my want list for a long time. :-) -Edie |
| Skywaitress..I rec'd Burgundy guaillaria in the WS swap from you and I'm so delighted. Wanted to say Thanks and ask if you will email me, so we can talk about another possible trading of seeds. |
