Flamingo Feather Celosia - A candidate for winter sowing?
| | |

| I understand it is very sensitive to the cold and it does get cold here in CT. Can this be WS'ed in CT or am I better off starting it some other way? Any tips/tricks would be appreciated. It's a great looking plant.
Would this self-sow in CT? Probably not.
Also, is winter sowing as easy as it sounds? Again, in CT, when would I start? Do you water after the initial watering and sowing? What about snow?
Thanks! |

| Hi twigfarm! I wintersowed mine and they did great. I'm hoping that I will have some self seeders. This is my first year for them. You'll love wintersowing. Last winter was my first year and I am hooked! Read up on the FAQ page and if you have any other questions just ask. This a wonderful group of people.

twigfarm---Since celosia is an annual you may want to start them around March or April. I usually start most of my annuals around that time. Perennials I'll start earlier like in Dec., Jan, or Feb. Duane |

| I've wintersown celosia Flamingo Feather for three years now, with great success. My records show that last year I started mine on March 7th. I've have indeed had some reseeding from this, but since I cut most of it for bouquets, I always sow more via wintersowing. Have fun! :) Dee |

| Thanks for the follow-ups and encouragement folks! I've been invited to take seeds from the plant where I saw it at Garden of Ideas here in Ridgefield. Great place! Should be interesting to see how things go for a first-timer with winter sowing. Thanks again. |

| Twigfarm, you might want to try Flamingo Purple and Pampas Plume also. I've grown these celosias too and have enjoyed them. :) Dee |
