How's your weather, do you have enough frost free weeks left to give them a warm moist period...

Well so far, I've read in the Farmers Almanac that our first frost date is October 5th with a 50% chance (right now we have 60-70 degree weather)...I think I remember reading somewhere that Peonies like warm-cold-warm so do you recommend wintersowing them now? so they get a warmer period first? or if I wintersow them in Winter, will it harm them or maybe just take another year to break the dormancy? I honestly am not worried about time so much but these are like precious merchandise to me lol

It won't harm them to sow them in winter, but it could add months to the time it takes to germinate - if mine I would sow them now. I really prefer Fall sowing for peony...we wait long enough for flowers from seed grown tree peonies as it is ;)

What depth would you plant them at? and would soaking help the seeds germinate sooner?

I've never soaked this particular seed - this is the rainy pacific northwest and keeping consistent moisture in a container never an issue outdoors in Fall, Winter, Spring. Tom Clothier suggests carefully nicking or filing a part of the seed coat and I haven't done that either. If you try it, be careful not to go so deep as to injure the embryo, your goal would be just to weaken a bit the seed coat a little to allow water to penetrate and reach the embryo.

And you'll want them covered by about an inch in a container of some type that will allow a good 3-4" minimum below them.
