planting stell d'oro daylilies from seed in late fall

Hi, I gathered a lot of stella d'oro seed this fall and then read up on propagating them (from seed). I learned that when planting them indoors you have to first keep them in a cold place . . I thought if I planted the seed in a raised bed or in a cold frame outdoors they would do well too, has any one done this? I know I need to plant them in a place where they can grow to maturity undisturbed (some where I can watch them and not forget where I put them!). What are your experiences with this? I have a lot of seed and very little room inside.
