I had one that sprouted that I was so proud of. The little fella got its first true leaves and was about 1.5" tall. Then I think it got dampoff, keeled over and died. I thought about trying to find some more and winter sow them due to the damp off. ANyone try this? what were your results?

They do okay but fresher seeds give better results. Good drainage is very important with most tree seeds so you might want to keep an eye on the container and give it an extra slit in the side if needed. Also, one the seeds sprout open more holes on top so plenty of fresh air can get in there to wick away extra moisture. T

Hi Tammy, I have them sprouting all over my yard in the spring. I have potted them up and brought them to plant swaps. I can get you some fresh seeds as soon as they fall if you would like to send for some. Lisa

Winter sowing fresh, not-dried maple seed is the best way to go. If you have to store them for a while, wrap them in a damp (not wet) paper towel in a baggie and store in the fridge. Sow them and cover them with some soil, but don't cover them with plastic or anything else. Sue

I winter sowed a few and they did not germinate the first year so the container was dumped in one of the gardens. The next year I found three seedlings. Since then, I have lost them to the deers trampling on them. :O( Ah well, my neighbour says they eat her's all the time. It wasn't meant to be.

I start mine in ziplock baggies of damp vermucilite in the frig, checking on them periodically and sew ones that sprout as soon as I can....but like others said, they need to be fresh seeds. Peggy
