Turkey Day is coming

| And in my garden I've got a few WSed plants that will be lending themselves to my table.
Salvia officinalis is Sage--and it's so nice to tuck a leaf or two under the bird skin and it's also divine in stuffing.
Allium tubrosum is Garlic Chives and they'll be snipped into a bowl of mashed spuds.
I've got some Rainbow Chard that will do nice for some greens to go along with the bird and the spuds.

If you're shopping do look at what is available at the store--the large veggie and dip tray makes a wonderful container when you flip it over and do it's rim like you would a coolwhip tub. Oh and CoolWhip tubs. Yeehah! Cider comes in milk jugs. Some of the pies from the supermarket come in plastic clmashells--look for pies in containers that are at least four inches deep.
Happy Shopping, Happy Birding, and Happy WinterSown Container Obtaining.

Thanks for those reminders, Trudi! My Garlic Chives die down to the ground in the fall, but the Sage and Parsley are almost evergreen. I think I may still have a handful of carrots out in the veggie garden that I could use too. With the kids out of school this week, and no out of town company coming for Thanksgiving, I may have time to start making my 2010 wintersowing list : ) Bonnie

Wishing all of my American friends a great Thanksgiving Day full of wonderful family moments!

I keep watching temps and checking my Parsley & Sage plants. They're hanging in there for Thanksgiving dinner cooking. Chopped most of the Parsley and put in freezer for winter dishes. I've been grabbing all the cut fruit and muffin containers my father gets from the supermarket. Also saving my niece's yogurt containers.

Salvia officinalis - how does anyone get by without one of these plants? I still have a little rosemary in my patio garden, too, which will find its way into my holiday cooking somewhere - biscuits come immediately to mind there. Just 3 of us (and dog) for Thanksgiving this year - LOL, the dog will make out well! DD is still across the pond, but has a friend from the States visiting, so she won't be lonely (which makes Mama happy :)). Have a wonderful day, everyone! ('Bama/Auburn game on Friday - woohoo!)
