Thank you. These days, anything blooming is beautiful #1 - WS'ed this year - Red yarrow (Achillea millefolium) #3 - Chrysanthemum sheffield pink - from a friend. Great flower, grows everywhere, the last bloomer. Last year, I've got a few tiny seedlings. Now, I have flowers all over my garden. In general, I'm trying to make sure that at any time of the year I have plants that bloom and I can enjoy them outside and inside (of course, except winter - at that time I reley on cut flowers from a store). |

My calendula, petunia laura bush, geranium and a salvia that I don't know is still blooming. My salvia guaranitica is already dead but this other salvia still looks good even if we've hit several 21f. I remember the salvia was id'd here and it starts with letter f.

Neil - is it Salvia farinacea? I WS seeds and they're still going strong. They didn't bloom but the plants are very healthy + taller than I was expecting. I did think they'd bloom because I'm under the assumption they're annuals. I think I got the seeds in a trade. We had snow & ice here this morning--my alyssum is STILL blooming!

You are right!!! :) Here is the thread that I started before. It was trudi who id'd it before. :D Salvia Farinacea I'm so impressed how strong she is!

I have grown that salvia for years and I love it. I bought it on a year end clearance at a local nursery as an annual. It comes back every year, it will reseed but not invassive. It comes true from seed also. Bad part is that it may be a little late to sprout, so don't forget where you planted it and don't give up on it. Once it sprouts it is quick to bloom. Lovely drought tolerant accent plant.

adamark, Which city are you in? I'm about 15 miles from the south border of Wisconsin. I'm in Huntley. Most of my plants here are already toast. Yours still looks awesome!!! :)

My gallardia is still going strong... I am sowing more of it this winter. I like the fall color. Despite several freezes I still have a few plants. Karen

v1rtu0s1ty - I'm in Downers Grove, about 15 miles form Chicago. Two days already made a difference - only Chrysanthemum is doing fine and it will till serious snow. Only one gaillardia came this year. I have collected seeds for next year. Hopefully next year will be more successful. I also like those colors.

I know Downers Grove. My last job was at that place specifically at Highland Parkway. :)

I'm with you Karen - my WS gaillardia is gorgeous and it hasn't even bloomed yet. All I've got to love about it so far is the foliage. I didn't think I'd like it based on photos I saw in catalogs but am glad I took the 'leap of faith' and WS seeds. I'm looking forward to next season's blooms & guessing I'll be adding more of it in years to come.

Lovely! We've had some pretty good frosts/freezes here too and still I have Calendula officinalis nana 'Citrus Cocktail' and the standards (a ton!) , Nigella, Snapdragon, Venidium 'Jaffa Ice', Larkspur, Viola and Sweet Alyssum and late to come in Rudbeckia hirta. Funny thing though is that two years now in a row all of the re-seeding Blue Shrimp plants have been waiting until mid to late fall to start sprouting and they get to a nice rosette and then freeze out before they can begin blooming!! Guess I'll have to wintersow them to get they going in spring from now on....this one just doesn't make any since to me at all!! Thanks for sharing the beautiful pics :) Vera
