I didn't know how to post pictures back when the first lupine sprout got its second leaf so I decided to post it now, along with a picture I took this morning of what they look like all grown up + with a little frost on them.

What exquisite design.

How will lupines perform in zone 5a? I couldn't recall if it was lupines or delphiniums, someone told me that they bend badly in zone 5a.

I really would like to grow lupines. Received seeds too from Eileen! :D

Aha! So, Neil--I DID send you all the seeds, yes? I thought I did but I didn't mark down the day I mailed them.

Lupines are an alpine native so they will do well in poor soil. They're hardy in Z3-9 (it should say on the seed envelope label) so they'll do fine in Z5. What makes the difference is the soil--in good soil they tend to flop (mine did). In poor, rocky, sandy soil like my next door neighbors', they do fine.
