???Poppies???

Has anyone ever winter sown poppies. They are one flower I want to grow all over the place, and really have only minimal luck growing. My seeds always seems to be washed away by heavy rain, or become crowded out by something or squashed by all the bunnies, squirrels and chipmunks. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

I've had great success with annual poppies, but I haven't tried any perennials. I don't believe I did anything special.

Ah, winter sown poppies are the best! Check out wintersown.org; once there, do a search for "poppies" - you'll find a great pictorial essay on poppies called "Life of a Poppy Bed".

Hope this is helpful to you.

Poppies are incredibly easy with Winter Sowing, they need to be planted while still very small--most of mine get planted when they barely have their first set of true leaves.

Here is a link that might be useful: Life of a Poppy Bed

Poppies are easy. As Trudi said, plant when they are small.

Always one of my reliable early sprouters-I've done annuals and perennials both. I've gotten some nice seeds in trades & at dollar stores as well as from usual sale sources. I may have some to offer, but in reality I haven't had time to inventory my seeds yet!
