| I know it's not an official WS topic but does anyone else have unusual/odd/whimsical garden art they've either acquired through no fault of their own or been gifted with by friends & loved ones? While these are here to stay, I can say with complete honesty I had no hand in adding any of them to my flowerbeds:
The Somers Cleat (3 ft. wide, solid iron, approx. 150 lbs, (a) guaranteed to hold a supertanker at dock during a hurricane; and (b) there isn't another one in town)
The Sedum Biker Boot (gotta be the only one?)
Thimble Islands Rope - all 30 ft. of it wrapped around the crabapple tree (see how it goes off to the left & right there?) as well as The Somers Cleat. Did anyone spot the lobster pot buoy?
Whimsical stone owl
There's a story behind each one that I'll wait to bore you with until someone asks but I figure I can't be the only gardener who's been on the receiving end of unusual, if not downright odd, garden art aside from wind chimes, bird feeders, birdhouses, birdbaths & statuary. For the record, I spared you the nautical landscape timbers, the ancient mailbox on an iron post... |

| Wish I could do something unique with the Artesian well thig-a-ma-jig. For now it keeps a rock for pounding in stakes and acts as a lean-to for garden tools. I was thinking of trying to find a tubular shaped object - like a huge PVC pipe - and doing some mosaics on it and placing it on top... Anyone have innovative ideas for this one? |

| Hubby thinks you need a Obelisk, with a pretty vine growing up it, if you lived closer, he would make you one.(What he said). I like his idea, you could also plant a huge hosta by it,that is what I have done, course, it shows in the winter. :0( cAROL |

| That owl is so cute..... I don't have anything whimsical. I can't think past trying to get more flowers into the garden, LOL. The only object I have that's not plants or rocks is an armillary that DH created by bolting the rusty iron piece onto a cement pillar. The clematis grows up and through it later in summer. This picture is taken in May, and as you can see, I need to replace the lavender that's gotten woody and add lots more color to that garden. tiffy, what a beautiful house and garden you have... I had a similar challenge in my front yard when we moved in; a big ol' white PVC pipe sticking up about 2 1/2 feet out of the ground, right in the middle of the yard. I ended up building up a stone wall around it and filling it in with dirt. It became a round raised bed about 3 ft in diameter. I left the top 6 inches of pipe with the lid showing, and put a rock in front of it. The lavender is very happy there, as is anything else that needs good drainage. In your situation, you could "bump out" your lovely garden boarder to include the new raised bed, and cut a short paved pathway through between the raised bed and the orignal garden so you can still get in there if you need to. It would probably end up being easier to mow since you wont have to worry about mowing between the pipe and the garden.

| Tiff..could you paint it grey and somehow attach a birdbath to it? Or, slide some hollow statuary over it (wal-mart stuff). |
