Countdown ~ 2 days left.

I'd like to get another bag of soil.

It's a cold grey day today, I'll be making tomato soup later on to have with lunch. I'm going up to the attic later to store some bundles of SASE envelopes, while I'm up there I'll guve a gander of what I've got stashed away for containers. I've been saving the spinach and mesclun clamshells from BJs, I've got some storage boxes from the dollar store that I prepped this summer with the electric drill. Zroom zroom. I've also got a package of steam-table pans which I'll gash for drainage when I use them. And those fit nice inside the two-gallon extra-large ziploc bag--looks like I'm set with containers for Solstice.

T, also making cookies today.

This year I am so much more organized. I am psyched. Trudi are those pans the lasagne type aluminum pans?

And also I need some help with covers for some containters from HD. My friend brought a 16 tray annual last year. So I want to use that as well. But don't know what to use as covers. Or can I just leave them open?

Yes, they are lasagna type.

I'm not sure how large that tray is, but you can make a support frame with coat wire and slip it all into a clear bag--maybe the zipper-type packaging that a comforter comes in?

Also, I'm not too keen on WSing in cell packs--they have very little soil in each cube and they dry out rapidly.

I do not know if what trudi is using is aluminum but I have seen others use the pans you described. I use mine for other purposes, like holding water I don't plant in it, yet others do.

As for the lids well unless you have a way to prevent the rain from washing out all of your dirt I would suggest using a lid. How bout plastic bags?? Though the next question I want to ask is how big is your 16 annual tray and how deep??

Today is warm here 42f!! Now they say that on winter solstice it will be 49F, WOW. Tomorrow will be 48F.

I packed in all of my mix, and it is currently thawing in the kitchen. I will bring in my containers later on today and start prepping them. I figured I would go ahead make all of my holes and start putting in soil. I am so excited to get started. It is everything I can do to not start planting already.

I need to also break down a chicken and either make chicken and dumplins or a good chicken noodle soup. Hmmm my heart says chicken and dumplins but from the current thermal wear issue, my mind is saying chicken noodle soup. lol

Jugs are prepped, seeds are on the counter waiting for a long Winter's nap. Just have to run out to the greenhouse and get some markers to place in the jugs. I am finally ready! Felt good to touch the dirt again.

I like to use cell packs for zinnias and other annuals that I spring sow. They germinate quickly and get planted out soon after. I put them in large plastic boxes with lids or plastic topping.
