Countdown ~ 24 hours!

I'm always working on charity projects, last week seeds went to an educational enviromental center in Michigan, and today I hope to do the bulk of the packing for a donation of seeds going to an underfunded natural history museum in Wisconsin--they'll be having a fund-raising plant sale this spring and they need seeds ;-) This morning I packed wildcard tomato seeds, which are a 'surprise choice' on the tomato list--always an interesting selection because you don't know what it is until the pack arrives in your mail.

I'll try to get some more work done in the yard today, in particular setting up an area where Emily can't grab the flats. Her nickname is 'VelvetHead the Destroyer' and she has wrecked havoc on empty garden pots, dug ankle-snapping holes, attacked water sprinklers, chewed up hose, and carried off pruned limbs before I could put them into a bundle. And, she has left bombs in all sorts of places. She is a garden terror ;-O However, she has spent most of the morning under the computer table, snoozing while laying over my feet and keeping them warm. Oh well, I suppose somethings I can put up with--toasty toes are a wonderful thing.

Nothing better than a warm fuzzy foot warmer, lol.

We have a neighbors dog that likes to leave me bombs, well I love to garden bare footed. That dern dog leaves those bombs right where I walk, almost like he is trying to cover up my scent. He does it so rare that I am not accustom to have to look for it. So needless to say what ends up on my feet, lol. Though I guess it is better than trying to wash it out of a treaded shoe. Squishhhh!!

Speaking of tomatoes-
Can i put tomato family seeds out to sow now, instead of closer to spring, in 7b? Are there any other herbs that i could sow now that would survive the freeze? (aside from parsley, sage, lavender, thyme, rosemary)

thanks!

As for tomatoes I would wait till febuary or march. That is me someone else might have tried that though and it worked fine.

As for herbs my thought would be anything that reseeds normally can be sown now regardless if it is annual or perennial. A few that come to my mind is; any dill, any basil, lemon balm, sorrel, any fennel, mexican tea, any self heal, any mints, soapwort, any rue. Though I do not think it would hurt to start my herbs now I probably will not start them till febuary or march.

Heh-- Trudi, I have a 75lb German shepherd puppy, so I empathize :) The backyard is right out as far as WS until I get a fence put up. If there's anything that will hold him, LOL

The containers will be squirreled away under bushes in sunny spots, so the neighbors don't see my yard trash :)

BTW: Memory = black hollyhock, Wildlife = bee balm, Tree = blueberry hawthorn, and Faith = ? Maybe something that failed gloriously last year. xD

Countrycarolyn.....EWWWWE.....*lol* I am owned by a 98 lb Chocolate Lab named Cocoa who likes to leave a lot of bombs around (he's such a shameless lush), however, I have a couple of pairs of garden clogs and if I step in one of his bombs, I just wash them of with the garden hose. I don't think I could ever walk around in my bare feet, wish I could though..*S*

Sigh. Can't you at least wear flip-flops?

Please be careful. PLEASE. Your tootsies are important to us.

T--eating warm icebox cookies. Yummmmmmm.

COOKIES? Did you say COOKIES? I LOVE COOKIES! And ice box ones are the best! Now I have to go make some...

I have walked around bare footed since I was a small child. It is a very hard habit to break. The only time I wear any shoes is when I am using a shovel. I buy sneakers and when the bottom starts falling off they become my garden shoes.

What is worse than a puppy bomb, are the bees. I feel guilty when I step on a honey bee, lol, that is how pathetic I am. I got stung one year right in between my big toe, now talk about horrible.

As for cookies all the little girl scouts are selling cookies, I bought 4 boxes, (and I wonder why I have a hard time fitting in my thermals). I am going to bake a chocolate cheesecake, that is if I can stay out of the oreo's. LOL

Carolyn,

I go barefoot whenever possible too, but my most memorable dog related adventure was one day before a dental appointment I stopped at my Dad's & decided to do a little maintence in his garden before I left. In the car on the way to my appointment, I could have sworn that my feet could use a bath, but didn't think anything more of it until I climbed in to the dentist's chair. There, stretched out in front of me were my sandal-clad feet...and the biggest lump of you-know-what hanging on my shoe! Well, I knew that there was NO way to ignore this for the next hour, so I calmly left the building, tossed the shoes in my trunk & returned to the exam room. Of course I was asked if everything is ok, and of course I couldn't think of a cover story, so I blurted out the truth! We were both laughing so hard that she couldn't put a sharp instrument in my mouth for several minutes! We still laugh about it, and the newly-christened "poop sandals" spent a lengthy drying period in the shed before everything would come off! Yes, I still use them in the garden!
