Need advice on garden layout

Ok! So, with this winter sowing, I'm all hyped up and I realize I have to get my yard into shape. Now, I have a very odd shaped area for the herbs, veggies and berries I plan to plant: 14"30' by 71"36'. So VERY narrow, but big none the less. As I'm trying to plan this out, I want to know how wide my walkways should be. I was thinking of just doing one main walkway and then plants on either side. Got any suggestions on how wide the flowerbeds should be as well as the walkway?

Sorry if this sounds very amateurish, but I'm really horrible with imperial measurements, as I'm not from this country. *blush*

RE: Need advice on garden layout

LilBlossom..our flowerbeds were already established when we moved here in 2005, complete with 1980's scallopped brick edgers. One flowerbed is over 5 ft. wide and I have to have stepping stones laid out to get to the back of the flowerbeds. Don't make your flowerbed too wide. Mine are straight and boring. We live in a gated community and can only have foundation flowerbeds and I think I know the reason the one flowerbed is 5 ft. wide, because if made 4 ft. wide, there would have been a foot of grass for the landscaping people to mow, next to the sidewalk, so the original owners got permission to extend the flowerbed beside the garage to the sidewalk. I would like to have some curved beds, but that is more trouble and work, so I stick to the straight, boring existant flowerbeds; scallopped pavers and all! If we took up the scallopped pavers, I'd have to find a way of getting rid of them or move them elsewhere to other beds(like the flowerbeds in back of house)and that means digging trenches for them. It's a lot of extra work so they are going to stay where they are for now.
