| Hi folks and gather round the pot-bellied stove. You don't want to catch a chill so close to the holidays and the wonderful world of winter sowing that starts in JUST SIX MORE DAYS!!!
I stopped at the job lots store on my way home from work (needed lightbulbs) and what to my wondering eyes should appear just inside the door? You got it!!! Annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs--all 40% off and all packed for 2011 and lots of new perennial varieties they didn't sell last year. They had Shasta daisy 'Alaska,' Rudbeckia hirta 'Irish Eyes,' Gaillardia 'Burgundy' & 'Goblin' plus lots more. I came home with multiples of those but didn't dare look at the annuals; there were more of those than there were perennials. I can't say if they "got the word" to put seeds out earlier or what but sure was glad I needed lightbulbs today! |

| I am so glad you were not telling me of a store online that had a sale going on. You know I am already planning what I am going to purchase for 2011 wsing. That is how bad I have it!! On my must have for 2011 is a hazlenut bush. I got to have it, it is a must. I mean I HAVE to have it for 2011. I found this "must have" while looking for a "desperately want" tall garden phlox. |

| It dawned on me after posting that the title should have read, "Merry Christmas Winter Sowers!!!" You could have knocked me over & stolen my purse and I wouldn't have known what hit me for at least 20 minutes--I just stood there thinking, "Oh boy, oh boy!! SEEEEEEEDS!!! YES!!!" This is just so sick! I've got 55+ seed types I either harvested or traded for, all tidy & organized, ready to winter sow and here I go & buy another 16 before I even sow the first milk jug. I bought multiples because there's so few seeds in off-the-rack commercial seed packs it's hardly enough to WS a single milk jug. I'm filling multiple beds & multiple gardens (neighbors) so I need quantity. Plus at 40% off they were only $1/pack. At least I remembered to buy the light bulbs I went in for! |

| gardenweed..I'm laughing with you, not at you. Remember I made a statement a few months ago that in 2011, I was only going to sow 36 (1/2 gal.)milk jugs. I recall Token set his goal for 50...Like you, something just stumbled in my way today too..I took clothes to the local hospital Thrift shop to donate and outside of the building entrance, I spied two milk crates..a black one and a purple one..and I asked the staff person what they were going to do with them, and I was hoping he'd say if you want them they are yours, but he told me I could buy them for $1 each. I reached into my wallet and pulled out the $2 quickly..as I'd paid $1.91 each for my others ones at Value Village last WS season. Each one will hold 9 (1/2 gal.)milk jugs, so maybe I'll sow those for the May plant swap..All depends on how full my flowerbeds get when I start planting out. WE don't have one of those stores that you mentioned here but maybe Big Lots will have seeds for sale now..might have to make a trip up there over the weekend, about 8 miles from here. You know this WS is an addiction! Wonder if there is any help for Wintersowers or a rehab group? LOL! |

| Odd Lots...Big Lots...Ocean State Job Lot - they're all basically the same idea. Here in New England it's named Ocean State Job Lot because the first store opened down near the beach in Rhode Island which is the Ocean State. Donkey's years ago they sold a lot of clearance men's underwear and I never paid much attention (for obvious reasons). Over the decades they've expanded their inventory and become a going concern. ontheteam posted she saw the seeds too. Granted they're Burpee commercial seed packs but to certified, dyed-in-the-wool seed-aholics, it doesn't matter. Will I go back for more? Uh-huh, oh yeah. cAROL if you're looking for seeds, just email and let me know and I'll "shop" for you and send them! |

| We have a big lots so I may just have to check it out. I have to go to the grocery tomorrow so on my way I will for sure be going to big lots. Oh me I will be doing the happy dance in the middle of the store if they have phlox paniculata. Phlox in general is one of the best smelling plants I have ever come across it is up there with gardenia. |

| Well I went to our big lots, I went through every single isle (it was a mad house in that place) I did not find any seeds. So I asked a clerk, and I told her I had heard about other big lots carrying seeds now. She informed me that, that might be so for stores that normally carry seeds at normal season but this store doesn't cause no one buys them. So for those of you that have a big lots if they don't carry seeds during normal growing season then they won't stock them now either. My sister just called me and asked me to go shopping (out of town) so we are off to go shopping here in a few and I may just try to convince her to run by big lots there and see what they may have. I am crossing my fingers!! |
