Larkspur and Poppy Questions

I have been WSing for several years now, and I have had very good luck for the most part. I have not had a lot of luck with larkspur, I usually only have a very few. I know that some of you direct sow, so I am going to try that. I am in zone 7, so is it too late to WS them? Should I wait for early spring? Does the same apply to poppies? I have better luck with poppies, but They also drop some seed and come back, so thought I might direct sow some of them as well. I did not get my seed ordered as early as I would have liked to, so don't want to put them out now if it is too late.
Thanks in advance.

I'm in zone 7, too, and I usually direct sow both larkspur and poppies in early spring. Poppies in particular resent transplanting, to it's best to direct sow these (not winter-sow them, which is actually sowing them in containers). If you sow several times, about a week apart, you should get a prolonged bloom time.

These are both self-sowers, so direct sowing now should work, but I usually have more luck with these in the early spring.

I became a winter sower in 2009. I tried wsing larkspur around March of 2009. Nothing germinated. Pitimpinai told me to spread them early winter. So around early November of 2009, I spread them in the area where I want them. It made it! :)

It's the blue or violet flowering plant in the middle of the picture.

Thanks for your replies. I have 2 packs so I might put one out now, and one out in very early spring. That should take care of it. Thanks again!
