No Snow....Yet (Updates Too)

Hi everyone,

The recent Nor'easter skipped my part of PA but still getting cold temps and wind. We've had snow but only coatings and they didn't last long at all.

So far, I'm up to 10 containers but I have four more that I started to work on tonight (my eldest niece helped me do the holes and even filled and sprinkled seeds in the two containers we did tonight! She and my nephew visting and had fun!)

While looking over my containers, I noticed the soil was dry ( a mix of MG potting soil and perlite). Should I mist them?

Brad/moonwolf - your containers are outside aren't they? I'm a little surprised they're dried out so soon after sowing. Was the soil/mix good and moist when you sowed the seeds? Once I set my containers outside in the snow or on the ground, they freeze pretty fast in these frigid temps and I don't need to even think about watering them until long after they thaw in March/April. Last year we had such heavy spring rains they were soaking wet right up until time to plant out the seedlings.

Hi gardenweed,

Yep, all of my containers are outside. Yes the mix was good and moist. They're calling for rain on Saturday, so maybe I'll have some relief. I brought in my soil from the shed and it was frozen! I think it was my fault since I put moist unused soil back into the bucket.

Lucky you to miss the snow! We got about 12 inches here, more or less, it's hard to tell because the wind has been hooooowling for 2 days and it's blown the snow all over the place.

I did 12 containers the day after Christmas, but didn't get them out before the storm, because I placed the bottles in a plastic box and was trying to water them from the bottom - and then the storm hit! So they're sitting in the kitchen but will go out soon. They all need cold strat, so I'm not too worried about them sprouting??

I had to water the aluminum pans 2x. My soil was too wet at first. We had a lot of wind. Now everything covered with snow.

I guess it depends on the quality of the mixture. I'm a newbie! I used MG potting soil.
