Thanks Sara! I'm glad you agree ;-)

Sharon, I have two Cl Americas and they are both on Dr. Huey, so maybe that's our problem. My Pearly Gates is on Fortuniana and it's a winner. I bought Pearly Gates at the Cool Roses sale that I think we met (?). The Grace de Monaco (pictured above) was purchased at Pop's Nursery in Davie (they sell Nelson's roses for $16 each). I love Cool roses, but they are an hour's drive away from me, so they are not my favorite local nursery. I would suggest you take a trip to Nelson's on a Saturday morning at some point if you haven't done so already. It's a cool experience.

Kublakan,

Yes. I think I met you and SoFla briefly at Cool's Roses. I should have paid closer attention to those of you who were there - I didn't realize the wealth of knowledge and the helpfulness of the people that I was meeting. Duh. Shame on me.

Looking back I should have realized. I think it was SoFla that actually posted the sale date of Cool Roses.... I didn't even know Cool existed until she was kind enough to list it on this forum. Now you are doing the same of Nelson's.

I have not been to Nelsons. I did not know they existed. I will check them out, though unlike you I live only 10 minutes from Cool's Roses, so it might be hard to get me to travel very far to make a purchase.

I had been buying bare root roses at Sam's, Costco's and Kmart - treating them as annuals because of the root stock issue. I also purchase own root roses from mail order at Chamblees. So far the own roots have held up, but I am sure over time the nematodes will get them..... though I keep amending my soil. It is probably a losing battle though.

The hard part for me is I see all of these roses that I want and they don't necessarily come on fortuniana rootstock. Guess I am a kid in a candy store, knowing I will get a tummy ache and not caring until I actually eat all the candy and have to live with the consequences. Yes, I laminate over the poor dying rose, even though I knew it wasn't going to live..... Hopefully, now that I found places that carry fortuniana root stock I can curb my "appetite" to only those that will have a longer and healthier life.

Does Nelson's carry a wider variety or a different variety of roses than Cool's? Someone also mentioned KandM and they seem to have a few different varieties..... I kind of want the Black Baccara - just because.

Again, Thanks for all your input

Ann, if you put the quote into Google, you will find the following:

https://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en&authuser=0&gws_rd=ssl#newwindow=1&hl=en&authuser=0&q=+%22Current+control+strategies+include+keeping+roses+in+good+vigor%2C+pruning%2C+mite+control%2C+and+cultural+controls+such+as+reducing+water+on+leaves.%22+

I was the one equating "good vigor" with a healthy immune system. My exact statement is: "I assume that the "good vigor" is to keep the immune system at its best."

If you can suggest any other meaning as to why they included "good vigor" under current control strategies, please share that meaning with us.

Good vigor could reference the way a rose is grown...water and fertilizer.

Good vigor, IMO, is a really odd way of implying immune system maintenance. But I don't have much experience with immune system literature.

Sorry for the confusion. It is either Mavrik or Artic Circle (I don't know where #$%^^ I got Artic Ice, too many bottled water commercials I guess).

Here's Artic Circle

...and Mavrik

I bought it at Cool Roses and I believe it wasn't labeled when I bought it either.

Thanks again for the help.

I do not consider plants grown under the stated conditions (plastic tunnel or greenhouse, under cover) to be not receiving direct sunlight (for practical purposes, of course some U.V. and/or IR would be filtered out ).

It is a beautiful rose and I do love the colour and the cup shape is perfect. Now I really want to know what this rose is too.

Today I visited the garden center close-by and I saw its "Just Joey" rose. Here are some photos I took:

This looks exactly like the rose I have. Even the bloom never fully opened....

I have to agree with Ann. If Pickering does re-open, but only ships rooted cuttings, I can't see them being able to ship to the USA. IF the cuttings are grown out for *two or more years* before they ship, they would be of a size to survive. Otherwise, a one-year cutting that gets bare-rooted will never survive the trip.

I think you guys are right about rooted cuttings. I'd have to drive 3 hrs (one way) to pick up the roses. I'd need to call first to order the roses, then they could hire an inspector for the certificate (crossing the border) before my visit. Hope I can see the list soon.

Hi-- I get about 4-5 days on each bloom I think? It is not among the longest held blooms, but they self clean and they bloom really well, so I am pretty happy with it.

Palatine Roses has Amadeus grafted onto multiflora rootstock - that would be a good choice for you.

Paul Zimmerman has a series of youtube videos on all aspects of rose culture, including training a d pruning climbing roses. Paul's a great guy and his videos are worth a viewing or two.

And of course you can come back here whenever a question arises or to show photos of your garden.

I have all China, Tea, and Noisette roses along with one KO. All of them are just as healthy as the KO. I also have a few HTs for cut flowers for the house, and every single one of them has to be sprayed.

Rose of Sharon bushes and also Hydrangea bushes are an Oklahoma tolerant spring to frost all season bloomers for color.

That puckering can also precede powdery mildew that rarely turns into rrd thou it could.

The leaf distortion and discoloration photo also shows signs that the plant may be deficient in calcium ( the distortion) and that the soil may have a build up of salts from fertilizer (the brown leaf). Leaf samples sent to a lab to verify the lack of nutritional problems would be a good educational tool.

Love dragon flies, they're so pretty. I don't see any here in my garden, but I saw a lot of them by a lake in the Adirondack Mountains this summer.

It was a band, so I started it there. I am going to put it in the ground after this bloom cycle :)

The majority of the foliage is healthy looking. A few leaves yellowing are the norm for most of my roses.
