FWIW, I've ordered it twice from Edmunds and it rapidly cankered down to nothing within a few weeks and died. They've replaced it when I emailed, but I obviously can't comment on its growth habits when happy. You might try it from HD if you can find one that has healthy canes on it. I think Gold Medal is in a different and higher range of quality - both for disease resistance and beauty of the blooms - but that's my impression. I love that rose too. It's getting toward the time of year when HD might discount their potted roses, and that would be a good excuse to give it a try.

Thank you, Cynthia! I guess if I'm at that HD and see a good one maybe I'll give it a try, but it's not like I'll make a trip back just for that one. I do love a good yellow rose :)

Anyone else have this one?

I've only seen pictures of Princess Anne, but here is how David Austin describes her color:

" The young flower is deep pink, almost red, gradually fading to a pure deep pink as the bloom matures. The undersides of the petals have a pleasing hint of yellow."

I personally like roses that go through a series of color changes. Molineux is another Austin rose that can bloom anything from apricot pink and cream to golden apricot and bright yellow to mellow yellow and cream. Fun to see what color it will be each day.

No lavender in Princess Anne, according to DA. However, other sources mention the attractive lavender-purple shades the blooms pick up as the bloom ages.

One virtue Princess Anne has that is very important in my garden--it is rated as "very disease resistant." She also seems to be a really good bloomer.

If I had any room left in my garden, this is one rose for sure that I would plant.

I'm looking forward to those pics!

SoFLRose10, thanks for the suggestion. I didn't want to use 2 of 3 different roses since I tend to plant in couples or threes. This way I'll still have 3 First Crush left.

Kate~ I went with your and Seil's suggestion: 3Princess Anne, 3 Boleros. Now I'll just have to wait until they flower. The growth on the PA is still pretty minimal. These have only been potted for about 3 weeks, but they are growing nicely, sending out lots of shoots. The Boleros already have flowered and have set a second flush of buds so these should be flowering in about a month. I hope PA flowers at least once so I can see her color. Even DA's pictures look lavenderish in the catalog, so I'll just have to wait and see. Everyone raves about the prolific bloom, hardiness and disease resistance so she does sound like a winner!
I will post some pics when the garden is finished :-)

Oh, I love Your EDI. Up here in the dry heat, it's the same thing. Blooms right through the worst of it. A great rose. I love those Peach Drifts, too, and really need to figure out where I could squeeze in a few. Diane

Andrea, I'm no expert either but looks like it could in fact be Pearl Kordana. I would wait for the blooms to open for a better ID but the bud looks like the pic posted on HMF http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.47775&tab=1

Ivan not too sure what you have there - whatever it is it's lovely!

sharon, it is good if you have the heel, but not neccessary. You cannot always get a heel on the cutting. Ivan's cutting is similar to what I use. I would just cut a little closer to the bud eye and scar the bud eye before dipping in rooting hormone. you do not want to use too much of the rooting hormone as it will make the cuttings rot. I use a small dry makeup brush to spread the hormone powder on the scar I have made. Can you see the budeye just above the thorn on Ivan's cutting? I scrape beside it to scar it. Not too deep. You want to see the white. Some people make a slice, or two scrapes, and even mash it. Personal preference. I have tried all four as an experiment and really didn't see much difference in rooting success.

We were spared in my town, but other places had heavy damage. No hail for us or high winds. Just rain. We have had sooooo much rain. Good for growth of roses, but not for blooms.

Beautiful flowers! Looks really awesome! Our so-called storm had us freaked out in NYC but it was no more than 6 mins of normal rain ;/

Thanks to all for your replies. I will give it a chance to see how it does in the years to come. I planted it in a corner away from everything...lol. It looks happy so far. It has been a cooler summer than average so that may explain the whiter blooms. To be fair, it has been continually blooming for two weeks now with snow white flowers (hopefully it isn't mislabelled) but the individual blooms drops its petals after a few days. Well worst come to worst, if I don't like it, I can at least say that I have satisfied my "craving" to grow this rose.

I was convinced from all I read it would be the perfect climber. Not. Flowers were light pink until noon? First rose I've deliberately removed. Since then I pay attention only to "rose praise" here on the forum.

Thank Patty, that helps a lot. I was hoping she wouldn't be a black spot magnet. Is fish emulsion safe for rugosas?

The fertilizer that hurts them the most are chemical ferts. They don't like salts and high nitrogen. I would add fish fertilizer to the soil. Personally prefer not spraying on leaves.

Hi enchanted, it's Diane again. Previously I had suggested that Lauren's Grape poppy was a wonderful plant of the most gorgeous color. Lauren Ogden, a well known garden writer, seed expert, and book author is the developer of this poppy which she selected for over and over in her own garden, till she got the pure strain for Lauren's Grape seed. It's widely available now, but my favorite seeds are from the company, Renee's Garden, and they call their seeds, Lauren's Dark Grape, and it is a rich and dark color. These are annuals and bloom briefly, but the plant can fit about anywhere. The leaves are a beautiful silvery color, and I love the "pepper shaker" seed pod that develops. Let the plant reseed or gather seeds after the pod is ripe, and scatter in late winter or very early spring. Here are a couple of pics, taken by my talented granddaughter. There was a little too much sun the day these were taken. If you've seen my photos, I should mention that every one of them she photographed. DianeLauren's Dark Grape poppyLauren's Dark Grape Poppy

Thanks all for the suggestions. I also saw purple "million bells" planted at the base of roses with groundcover herbs. It was very pretty.

Great timing Jeri. This information should be useful to the poster who wanted to start his garden business in another thread.

I also got botrytis on my roses. It has been raining at least 3 days out of a week for the last month. Thunderstorms here and there and humidity have caused brown edges on most of my rose blooms since the spring flush. What have helped my roses to minimize botrytis spread is cutting off the affected blooms and deadheading as soon as I see signs of browned edges.

I secondly agree . Half of my blooms look like this too. I use the secateurs for remediation.

Thank you for the information. I will not use the sulfur or the copper. They kind of scared me that I could kill the rose. I know I have treated them as annuals, but only because they died of natural causes. I will try and save up and get these other fungicides that were mentioned.

So very much appreciative of the information.

Thank you

Oh of course, I forgot to mention that Honor Guard is Banner Maxx. I actually use Honor Guard, not banner maxx. Its way cheaper.
