There were some previous discussions about "Teacup Orchids" which are miniature Phalaenopsis Hybrids.

There are some Phalaenopsis species orchids with smaller growth habit and flowers so these hybrids should stay compact.

My understanding is that most of them will not stay miniature; they were treated with chemicals to keep them small, and as such will eventually out grow the chemical. They might be compact (mine was) when mature, but not real miniatures. Mine got to be about maybe 10" leaf span.

I agree with terpguy. I bought a mini phal at a show several years ago and it now has leaves that are a foot long! The blooms are just as big and beautiful as "regular" phals, so I don't think most of these are true miniature varieties.

Thanks. I figured that they would probably grow into larger orchids and so I did not purchase one. However, they were cute and not very expensive so I might have to get one anyway. The blooms were fading and they will probably be on clearance soon. I will try to get one then.

There are a wide range of miniature orchids available if you have your heart set on those, many of which are suitable for growing indoors.

I've bought a number of these noid minatures over the last couple of years at different grocery stores. There was a few that when I bought them had leaf spans of 6 or 7 inches and those ones have grown bigger leaves. However, I've also bought some with leaf spans of only 4 inches or so and I know have a couple of them in bloom with a short 4 inch spike with maybe 6 or 8 little flowers. So the bottom line is that I think some of the mini are just regular size orchids blooming on baby plants and others are true minatures.
