Weeping willow (S. babylonica) is probably most popular, but we use S. caroliniana with good success.

I've read about using "willow water"

I read something last year about how you can create "willow water"

I also read somewhere that ww will stay fresh for a year or longer if you refrigerate it. [I think this is probably incorrect.]

My comment immediately above should be modified to read that reasonable storage probably cannot be effected if the willow water is being used as a source of IAA, indolaceticacid. If the willow water is being used as a source of 'salicylic acid' it probably can be stored.

willow in winter? I think this will work but it is almost certainly a poor way to go. The persistence of willow may save the plant, not the technique.
