The Longwood and Montreal trials took place quite a number of years ago (13 yrs ago in Montreal's case, as you point out). Like all rose trials, both have relevance primarily for the specific locales in which they were conducted.

The results of the Montreal Botanical Garden trials appeared either here or on the Antique Rose Forum several years ago. I can't locate that thread using the search function, but perhaps someone here might have saved it.

Unfortunately, as it turned out, the thread about the trials included the name of the curator of gardens in Montreal who kindly supplied the results of the trial. Several of us later learned privately that the curator received a number of surprisingly inhospitable emails protesting/contesting the rose trial results, leaving her with good reason to regret ever having provided the information.

I think its important to reiterate that knowing the results from Longwood and Montreal would be most helpful for those who garden, respectively, in the Delaware Valley of PA and the Canadian province of Quebec. If we've learned anything on these forums, it's that it's impossible to generalize about the performance roses.

If someone has saved either the Longwood or Montreal trial results, I'd like to see them. Please post...

I have 2 of the above on order from Pickering--
Duc de Cambridge (damask) and
Aimable Rouge aka Le Triomphe (gallica)

Both of them are in their final season of offering from Pickering, so waiting until next year is not an option. I ordered multiple other roses from Pickering, also with the "final season" designation. Sad to see them go, but with the economy being what it is, and rose sales in general down, I can understand the decision not to carry as many antiques. Who knows if many of these will be in commerce in 2013 anywhere else.

You are very welcome, of course. Ca va sans dire. I have a garden in decline in zone 4, VT that I'm trying to rejuvenate. I will only buy VDR, very disease resistant roses. So I completely understand.

May I ask, because I've always wondered, about your screen name? It is an Austin rose, yes? But I can't recall you ever mentioning that you grow it.

Hi Chris: My kid suggested I used "Strawberry hat" as user's name, but I thought she said "Srawberry head", so I changed it to "Strawberryhill", yes, it's an English rose which I wanted but Roses Unlimited was sold out.

I would prefer using "Straw" for short.

I have realized that I should never have taken the liberty of using someone's name instead of their user name in my posts here and that I probably should have never posted my name here. Why? I've written before about my concern for the innocent reader and the novices, and I have concluded that they could infer that when we use personal names that we actually know one another in the real world as opposed to feeling endeared to someone in this forum, for example. In some cases, I believe the use of personal names actually means just that - that there is a personal acquaintance outside of this forum. However, since I do not personally know you or anyone here to my knowledge, I would not like to mislead anyone.
That being said, I have a preference as well. I prefer to be sandandsun, or any abbreviation of it.
